Suspended Ekurhuleni HR manager Linda Gxasheka is set to testify before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria at 9:30am on Thursday, confronting explosive claims that she helped shield embattled EMPD acting boss Julius Mkhwanazi from disciplinary action.

Gxasheka, placed on immediate precautionary suspension in December 2025 after a municipal council resolution, now faces formal charges.

On February 16, 2026, Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza confirmed she had been served with a charge sheet and will appear before a disciplinary committee.

At the commission’s probe are allegations that Gxasheka and the city’s head of legal, Kemi Behari, failed to act against Mkhwanazi despite recommendations to do so.

Testimony suggests the pair received irregular salary increases of R600,000, allegedly as rewards for protecting him — a claim they are expected to address under oath.

Her appearance was postponed from early February to 26 and 27 February 2026 after her legal team submitted a late 44-page supplementary statement.

The inquiry is examining claims of criminal and corrupt infiltration within the justice system, including a disputed EMPD contract linked to businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.

The hearings are underway.
