Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, known as Witness F, returns to testify before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday morning, as pressure mounts over his explosive admission that he had involved murder-accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala in the arrest of blogger Musa Khawula.

Nkosi is expected to resume his evidence at 9:30am, facing tough questions over a decision that has raised alarm about possible breaches of police protocol and influence from criminal networks.

In earlier testimony, Nkosi revealed that he sent a warrant of arrest for Khawula directly to Matlala, an extraordinary move that he claims was carried out under instructions from suspended deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

The commission, sitting in Pretoria, is probing alleged links between law enforcement and underworld figures.

Nkosi told the inquiry that Khawula had attempted to extort money from Matlala, prompting the controversial action.

He said Matlala, who frequented entertainment venues where Khawula was likely to appear, was positioned to alert police or facilitate the arrest using the warrant.

Khawula was ultimately arrested.
