President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to receive Brent Bozell's credentials this week, hopefully signalling an end to the strained relations between South Africa and the United States.

Bozell was confirmed as the US Ambassador to South Africa in December last year and arrived in the country in February to begin his term.

Last month, Bozell came under fire for his comments on the controversial 'Kill the Boer' chant.

At the time, IOL reported that Bozell condemned the chant as hate speech, and later took to X where he backtracked on his opinion.

"I want to clarify that while my personal view—like that of many South Africans—is that 'Kill the Boer' constitutes hate speech, the US government respects the independence and findings of South Africa’s judiciary," he shared in the post.

Last month, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO)'s Director-General Zane Dangor said officials met with Bozell.

Later, during a briefing DIRCO Minister Ronald Lamola said the US remains a key strategic partner for South Africa.
