Parliament's impeachment committee is now fully constituted after the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) submitted their nominees to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza.

Didiza received the names of Members of Parliament who will serve on the impeachment committee on Monday, marking the completion of the list.

The process followed a deadline set for last Friday, with most political parties submitting on time.

Parliament confirmed that the ANC had initially indicated it would submit its nominees over the weekend before finalising its list.

Parliament also confirmed that two parties, GOOD and the Pan-Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), will not participate, citing their limited representation in the National Assembly and the fact that their members serve in the Executive.

The committee will now proceed to begin its work on the Section 89 impeachment inquiry relating to the Phala Phala matter, following a Constitutional Court ruling which ordered Parliament to revive the process after finding irregularities in its earlier handling.

The 31-member panel will assess whether there are sufficient grounds to proceed with an inquiry into alleged violations linked to the Phala Phala farm scandal, involving the theft of foreign currency from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Limpopo game farm in 2020 and how the matter was handled.

The ANC will hold nine seats, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with five and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party with three.

For the ANC, representatives include Dorries Mpapane, Xola Nqola, Soviet Lekganyane, Faith Muthambi, Cameron Dugmore, Dikeledi Direko, Boyce Maneli, Godfrey Mahlaule, and Lusizo Makhubela, with Joy Maimela listed as an alternate.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be represented by Julius Malema and Omphile Maotwe.

The DA has nominated George Michalakis, Baxolile Nodada, Advocate Glynnis Breytenbach, national spokesperson Karabo Khakhau, and Nazley Sharif.

Representation for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party includes Dr John Hlophe, Dr Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, and Seeng Mmabatho Mokoena Zondi.

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has nominated Nhlanhla Hadebe, while the Patriotic Alliance will be represented by Marlon Daniels.

Wouter Wessels will represent the Freedom Front Plus, while ActionSA has nominated Lerato Ngobeni, with Athol Trollip as alternate.

The African Christian Democratic Party will be represented by Steve Swart, the United Democratic Movement by Nqabayomzi Lawrence Kwankwa, Rise Mzansi by Makashule Gana, and Build One South Africa (BOSA) by Dr Mmusi Maimane.

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has nominated Vuyo Zungula, Al-Jama-ah Imraan Ismail-Moosa, the National Coloured Congress (NCC) Fadiel Adams, and the United Africans Transformation Dr Wonderboy Mahlatsi.
