The Inkatha Freedom Party on Thursday urged Judicial Service Commission action against Pretoria High Court Judge Ntsikelelo Poswa for "gross incompetence".
Poswa's decision to grant R1 000 bail to two alleged murderers last month was strongly criticised and nullified by the Supreme Court of Appeal, which also reissued warrants for the men's arrest.
IFP spokesperson Koos van der Merwe said on Thursday Poswa had granted bail despite the two men readily admitting to be the culprits.
They were charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery wit aggravating circumstances.
According to evidence, one accused had a history of aggressive behaviour and appeared to display no remorse, and both accused had no fixed address.
"Poswa displayed a complete disregard for justice. He was reckless and ignored material facts.
"The fact that a full bench of the Supreme Court of Appeal slammed his decision to grant bail is sufficient evidence to be placed before the Judicial Service Commission to charge Poswa.
"There is no room for such incompetent judges on our bench and the sad result they accomplish, is to cast suspicion on other judges who perform their judicial functions meticulously," Van der Merwe said.
According to media reports, the alleged murderers have a trial date on October 31, and are still at large. - Sapa
