Two security guards were injured following a shootout on the N2 on Wednesday morning in an alleged cash-in-transit heist. 

According to Garrith Jamieson, the incident took place at around 5:30 am. 

"Initial reports were that multiple security officials had been shot. Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos."

Jamieson said paramedics found that two officials had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

"One of the guards had sustained critical injuries, and immediately the Netcare911 Helicopter was activated to assist in rapidly transporting the man to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required.

"The second security official had sustained serious injuries and was stabilized on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby Hospital for further care that he required."

He said the N2 was closed from the M7 Edwin swales offramp. 

"It will be closed for some time to allow investigations to continue. I would advise all motorists to avoid this area at all costs."

Jamieson said police were at the scene.

The N2 south bound from the M7 Edwin Swales has been closed to traffic.
