Cashier ‘beaten to death’

Published

Intruders beat a Johannesburg Post Office cashier to death with a hammer at the weekend, Beeld reported on Monday.

Police spokesman Captain Phillip Maganedisa said the 42-year-old Magda Frazer's husband dropped her off at the Highlands North Post Office, north east of Johannesburg, at 6.30am on Saturday.

Later in the morning, a member of the public told security guards that the post office had not been opened yet.

Security guards and the police then found her body.

Closed-circuit television footage from inside the post office showed how two men - one of them a part-time worker at the post office - entered the building and repeatedly hit Frazer with a hammer.

Her personal belongings were stolen as well as the contents of the post office's safe.

The two men are still at large. - Sapa
