PRETORIA: This Heritage Day, 24 September 2025, South Africans will unite at Loftus Versfeld Stadium for an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® attempt: Most people grilling/barbecuing simultaneously.
The event, called The World’s Biggest Braai, will bring together 2,500 braai participants and more than 4,000 attendees, turning Heritage Day into a historic celebration of South Africa’s culture of food, family, and unity. An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be present on the day to verify the attempt.
Following the attempt, the celebrations will continue with a full-scale music festival featuring some of South Africa’s biggest acts, including Mi Casa, GoodLuck, Booshle G, Biggy, Lee Cole, and Kurt Darren. Festival-goers can expect an unforgettable Heritage Day filled with music, food, and national pride.
Beyond setting a record, the event carries a powerful purpose. A portion of all proceeds from ticket sales will go to Trek4Mandela, an initiative that supports food security and period poverty across the country. Together with Trek4Mandela, Big Save has committed to providing one million meals to South Africans in need on World Food Day 2026.
Dylan Jardim, Head of Marketing at Big Save, said: “Braai means more than just cooking. It holds huge cultural significance across our beautiful rainbow nation. This Heritage Day, we’re coming together not only to celebrate our traditions, but to make history with an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® attempt.
