The Hundred returns from July 21 to August 16 and after the auction we now know which South Africans will be appearing in the 100-ball competition in England.
Across the near-month long tournament, we will have the privilege of watching some of the best shorter formats batter, bowlers and fielders. Among the top echelon of players will be a group of South African players that may yet prove to be integral parts of a title winning team.
South African sports site Mzansiwins have given the lowdown on the players currently signed up for The Hundred and what can be expected of them.
Donovan Ferreira
Donovan Ferreira has made the switch to Birmingham Phoenix for the 2026 season after successful stints with Oval Invincibles in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, Ferreira scored 122 runs at 20.33 before upping his game in 2025 by scoring 181 runs at 45.25. His ability to finish off a game makes him an incredibly tricky customer to bowl against, with 28 of the 147 deliveries he has faced going for maximums. With the Phoenix finishing in fifth last season, Ferreira will hope he can help his side storm up the standings this term as they look to take a top three spot.
Dewald Brevis & Lhuan-Dre Pretorius
Dewald Brevis will play his first match in The Hundred in 2026 after stints with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and Pretoria Capitals in the SA20. Already akin to English conditions after playing for Hampshire back in 2025, Brevis will look to bring the sort of form that has seen him smash 697 runs in 30 international matches with a high score of 125 not out. While still only 22, Brevis has a bright future ahead of him, and The Hundred may yet prove another competition he stars in.
Lhuan-Dre Pretorius is another young South African star looking to make big inroads in England and Wales’ marquee tournament. At just 20-years-old, the wicketkeeper will face stern competition from James Rew and Jonny Bairstow for the gloves, meaning this may yet prove more of a learning tournament for the youngster. Across a short T20I career, he has played 13 matches and scored 201 runs with a strike rate of 128.02.
Heinrich Klaasen & Aiden Markram
Heinrich Klassen has become one of the premier names in world cricket, with the South African star currently smashing runs in the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Having played for a range of teams across a senior career spanning back to 2011, Klassen has taken his game to the next level of late. his seventh innings in the 2026 IPL, Klaasen boasts 320 runs at 53.33 with a strike rate of 153.11. Not just comfortable soaking up pressure and playing classic cricket shots, Klassen’s ability to take the fight to the bowlers will be key in The Hundred in 2026.
Not just content with signing one South African talisman, Manchester Super Giants have also brought in Aiden Markram for his debut in the competition. In the international T20 game, Markram boasts 1966 runs in 73 innings at 31.71, while he has scored 1602 runs in 62 IPL matches with an average of 30.23. In what looks like a stacked batting lineup, Markram may help to prove the difference alongside players like Klaasen, Jos Buttler and Tim Seifert as the newly christened Manchester Super Giants look to better their sixth place finish in 2025.
David Miller & Tristan Stubbs
David Miller is one of the most destructive names in the men’s game, with the batter a player that is adept at finishing off an innings. Comfortable both smashing the ball around to help set a big target or cutting through the field to ensure his side successfully chase down a side, Miller will be hoping to build on 133 runs in eight innings in 2025. In that time, he was running with a strike rate of 187.32 whilst smashing 14 maximums along the way. To show his clear preference for clearing the ropes, he only scored three fours across his outings in 2025.
Tristan Stubbs is another of the young crop of South African batters that will likely have big futures. Stubbs will make his debut in The Hundred in 2026, but he does not arrive without experience. Indeed, 967 runs in 43 T20I innings is a solid tally, while he has scored 901 runs in 26 innings in the IPL at 45.05. With 43 maximums in the IPL and a strike rate of 156.70, Stubbs will likely help to provide a powerful hitting presence in the middle of the order, with Stubbs able to clear the ropes with ease.
Ryan Rickelton
Ryan Rickelton brings his huge talents to The Hundred in 2026, with the 29-year-old a player many will have their eyes on. While still relatively new to the upper echelons of the game of cricket, Rickelton has quickly put his mark on the game. An average of 28.50 in 29 T20I’s come along with a brisk strike rate of 150.30. In the IPL, Rickelton has scored 525 runs at 29.17 with a strike rate of 152.17. While matches are not always about smashing the ball as far as possible, possessing the ability to score quickly is vital. This is doubly true if a player like Rickelton is needed to soak up some of the pressure before counterattacking. Rickelton may yet prove one of the picks of the tournament with his ability to turn a game on its head.
Marco Jansen
The final South African player in The Hundred this season comes in the giant form of Marco Jansen. The tall left-arm quick is making a name for himself as an aggressive wicket-taking option that is as adept knocking the stumps over as he is ruffling the feathers of the opposition batters. Playing for a Welsh Fire outfit that finished at the foot of the standings last year, Jansen will be tasked with bringing the pace alongside Lockie Ferguson in a side that also features other huge international names including Joe Root, Phil Salt, Rachin Ravindra and Chris Woakes.
