Celebrated media personality and broadcaster Penny Lebyane is adding another meaningful role to her career, having been appointed Head of Communication at the Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF), effective immediately.

The appointment sees Lebyane become the official voice of the foundation, where she will lead its communications strategy, guide public engagement, and manage relationships with partners and stakeholders.

It is explained that her role is central to shaping and sharing the foundation’s vision as it enters an ambitious new chapter in 2026 and beyond.

A trusted friend and supporter of CMF since its inception 14 years ago, Lebyane’s appointment reflects a deep, long-standing connection to the organisation.

Lebyane now formally steps into the role of Foundation Champion, bringing her influential platform, storytelling expertise, and passion for social impact to support Founder and Chairman Dr Collen Mashawana and the Foundation’s nationwide network of volunteers.

“I am deeply honoured and moved to formalise my long-standing relationship with CMF,” said Penny Lebyane.

“For over a decade, I have witnessed first-hand the transformative work this foundation does in restoring dignity and hope to the elderly, as well as orphaned and vulnerable children. To now lead the charge in telling these powerful stories, amplifying our advocacy, engaging our partners, and strengthening relationships with stakeholders is not just a job, but a calling. I am ready to work hand-in-hand with Dr Mashawana and our incredible volunteers to take our message even further.”

Her new role comes at a celebratory moment for the foundation, which is preparing to mark its 14th anniversary.

The milestone will usher in the launch of strategic plans to expand CMF’s social impact and advocacy work beyond South Africa, placing the organisation on a broader continental and global stage.

Founder of the foundation Dr Collen Mashawana described Lebyane’s appointment as both fitting and deeply personal.

“Penny has been part of the CMF family from the very beginning and her heart has always been aligned with our mission,” said Mashawana.

“Her credibility, communication prowess, and genuine compassion make her the ideal person to steward our public engagement and relationships with partners.”
