Police detectives at the Polokwane Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES) Unit in Limpopo are appealing to the community to help identify goats recovered during a recent operation along the R81 and R71 off-ramps near the Mall of the North in Polokwane.

According to a SAPS Twitter post, members of the Limpopo Provincial Flying Squad were performing routine patrols when they came across a bronze Isuzu bakkie with a canopy parked along the roadside. The vehicle was found to be carrying 20 goats.

The driver told police he was transporting the livestock to an auction but was unable to provide the required documentation. “Additionally, discrepancies were noted in the available documents, and some of the goats did not have visible identification markings."

The recovered livestock were initially taken to the Polokwane SPCA for safekeeping and assessment and have since been moved to Mokopane SPCA for care and identification purposes.

Police are now asking community members who may have lost goats, or who can help identify the rightful owners, to come forward. “Anyone with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, Constable Morongwe Ramokgodza on 082 565 8135, the Crime Stop number, visit their nearest police station, or use the MySAPS App,” the SAPS statement added.
