Safa Cape Town president, Bennett Bailey, believes Bafana Bafana playing the CAF 2025 qualifier against South Sudan in front of a packed Cape Town Stadium would motivate those in charge of football to bring more matches to the city.
He appealed to the locals to pack the stadium.
Speaking during the media dunk session at Ikamva in Parow last Thursday, Bailey said everyone has a role to play to see to it that the stadium is packed to capacity.
‘It’s a huge opportunity for our sport. Cape Town should be hosting showpiece events like this and I thoroughly believe the matches will come to our shores in future.
“We need to prove to everyone that we can host matches of that calibre.
“We are a soccer province.
“We need to bear that in mind but we want to go as far as we can, to host big matches. It is time for the locals to pack that stadium,” he said. Bailey suggested attendance would be the main issue for them but said it was rare to see low attendance in Cape Town.
“This is the time to make a mark with this one. It is getting real now.
“We are getting into the nitty-gritty. For us, we have started with all the preparations and are ready to go.
“We are putting a real emphasis on fans to come and enjoy the spectacle.
“This is a big fixture in itself and it leads us to the African Nations and the World Cup, which we have high expectations for.
“There has been a few selection headaches for us, which can only be a good thing,” he said.
Tickets for the match cost R60 for adults, R30 for children under-12 and are available at Ticketpro. Gates open at 3pm. Kick-off is at 6pm.
