England’s Dan Bradbury outlasted his countryman Brandon Robinson Thompson and home favourite Casey Jarvis to win the Joburg Open at Houghton Golf Club by one shot on Sunday.
Bradbury fired a five-under 65 to finish on 17-under, one ahead of Jarvis and Thompson.
SA Open favourite Jarvis was gunning for a unique piece of history as he was bidding to become the third player in DP World Tour (DPWT) history to win three events in a row.
Despite leading for most of the final day, Jarvis made a crucial bogey on his penultimate hole as Bradbury would go on to birdie the 17th playing in the group behind.
From two behind, Bradbury was one ahead playing the last and despite overshooting the green with his approach, he struck a masterful chip to leave a tap-in for par and the victory.
The triumph was his third on tour for the 26-year-old and his second at the Joburg Open after his win in 2022.
“It's amazing to be honest. It's a great feeling. It's probably not sunk yet but it's so nice to have so many people here that I know and love,” said Bradbury afterwards.
Bradbury had fallen well behind during the midway point of the final round with Hennie du Plessis setting the pace, before he turned it on from the ninth hole with five birdies over the next nine holes.
“I think the three in a row, nine, ten, eleven was probably a turning point. I hadn't, I was playing alright, I just hadn't really held anything up to that point and then making those three kind of got me back in the tournament I would say.”
