If you’re expecting to find some bargains at the merchandise store at The Club at Steyn City for the LIV Golf SA event this weekend, you will be left disappointed.

Though a number of items are cheaper in the merchandise store than online, there’s not much you can get for under R1,000.

The cheapest peak hats in white with a LIV logo come in at R700. For comparison, top-brand TaylorMade golf caps go for around R399 at The Pro Shop.

If you have an even bigger budget and want a Southern Guards GC (SGGC) (the SA team) slim-fit golf shirt, be prepared to hand over R1,700. A similar type of golf shirt from Under Armour will cost R499.

The Costly Experience of Attending the Highest-Attended Golf Event in South Africa

Meanwhile, the SGGC T-shirts are even R1,000.

If that all sounds like too much, you can spend R500 on a SGGC golf towel. A Callaway golf towel from Sportsmans Warehouse retails for around R320.

Considering it will cost around R1,200 to enter the golf course on Friday, it means that will just be the start for most fans who will be in for a rather expensive day out.

At the Joburg Open - the DP World Tour-Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned event - a couple of weeks ago, entry to the course on Saturday cost R150.

The tickets for LIV Golf SA on Saturday started at R1,705.

With over 100,000 spectators expected to attend over the week, it’s already the highest-attended golf event ever - not just in South Africa.

They say to get into golf, you need to be rich, but it seems to watch it live, it will be just as expensive.
