Fans were left in shock during the highly anticipated The Boy Is Mine Tour, which brought together R&B legends Monica and Brandy for the first time in years, when Brandy abruptly exited the stage mid-performance, forcing Monica to carry the show alone.
The superstar duo abruptly ended their Chicago concert on Saturday, October 18, after Brandy suddenly walked offstage mid-performance and did not return.
Before leaving, she told fans, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my…” but never came back, leaving the audience concerned. The unexpected exit was especially shocking as the tour had been selling out venues across the U.S., celebrating both artists’ iconic hits and highly anticipated reunion moments.
Monica, was forced to perform the rest of the set alone, except for the duo’s hit duet, “The Boy Is Mine.”
Fans quickly took to X, speculating that the duo might have reignited their years-long feud, which began with a backstage fight at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. However, the pair had previously reconciled and joined forces for the tour.
@phrozenthunda said: “I went to the Chicago The Boy Is Mine Tour stop. Brandy walked off stage & said sum like “give me a sec yall” We never saw her again. Monica came out, monologued, sat, sang and left. No bye, no nothing. The screen went off. Lights came on and they told us to get out. We all were like that.”
“She really just said F it, I’m over it, I hope she and they all figure it out because I know fans are not okay with this. I wouldn’t especially if I paid good money to see you up front, up close and personal. A shame,” said @justajtheguy.
“This reads like the final scene of a very messy play. No resolution, no curtain call, just vibes and confusion,” said @Dhirendra_Rbl.
“Lip sync track was out of sync with the music track. i love brandy but she was trying to avoid her milli vanilli moment. they knew it was still messed up which is why she didn't do them because she would have had to sing it live which was never the plan unfortunately,” said @SonOfAGun1814.
Brandy later addressed the incident on her social media, apologizing to fans for the sudden end to the Chicago show. She explained that after weeks of nonstop rehearsals, she had become dehydrated and felt faint, making it necessary to prioritize her health.
“To my dear fans in Chicago, thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and most importantly, your prayers,” she wrote. “I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance… I still tried to return and give it my all, but with the technical demands of the show, it was impossible to fully connect with the production.”
She expressed gratitude to Monica for stepping in with “such grace and professionalism” and thanked the crew for their support. Brandy added that she had seen a doctor and was taking precautions to recover, promising fans she looks forward to returning to the stage “stronger and more grateful than ever” alongside Monica in Indianapolis.
