Police Minister Senzo Mchunu officially inaugurated the 42-million state-of-the-art Phaudi Police Station in Ga-Phaudi, Capricorn District, Limpopo.
The construction of a multimillion-rand police station was previously halted by disgruntled community members who insisted on being appointed as subcontractors. They accused the project's steering committee of overlooking local subcontractors.
Mchunu highlighted the significance of the new police station as part of the government's ongoing efforts to deliver essential services to the community, and to maintain peace and stability in the region.
He added that police officers previously had to travel long distances between Ga-Phaudi and the nearest station in Seshego just to make an arrest. Similarly, residents faced long journeys and additional transportation costs merely to file affidavits.
“In the past, police officers had to travel to Ga-Phaudi to arrest even a single suspect and then return to Seshego. Residents had to make their way to the Seshego Police Station to access essential services.
He further stated that the collaboration between the police and the community in combating crime encourages citizens to report criminal activities, including those involving family members, with the assurance that their identities will remain confidential.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba stated that the station is part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security in communities while also improving policing services in high-density areas.
He said that the station is equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced technology to improve police services, although he refrained from discussing the specifics of the technology for security reasons.
Mashaba added that the newly established, state-of-the-art police station will serve 36 villages across Moletjie, including Marowe, Lonsdale, Flora, Maupshe, and Ramoshoana. The facility is fully equipped to provide a variety of services, including a Victim-Friendly Room for survivors of gender-based violence.
“The station is equipped to provide a full range of services, including a Victim-Friendly Room to accommodate victims and survivors of gender-based violence. The station is staffed by trained police officials, with Captain Mabena introduced as the new Station Commander,” he said.
