Limpopo police have made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a 39-year-old man allegedly responsible for the brutal murder of a woman believed to be his wife.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police were called to a residence in Malamulele Section D around 22:30 on August 8. Upon arrival, they found the woman’s body lying in a pool of blood, with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.
He added that preliminary reports revealed the victim had called her younger sister, screaming for help on Friday evening. The sister, accompanied by another person, rushed to the house and noticed smoke billowing from inside before forcing their way in.
“They forced the door open and found a lifeless body lying on the floor, bleeding, with her legs partially burned,” Ledwaba said.
The victim had just returned from a school trip to Durban with learners when the attack took place.
The suspect allegedly fled the scene in a desperate attempt to escape but crashed violently into a bus moments later, which led to his immediate arrest.
“After colliding with the bus in the Watervaal policing area, the suspect fled in another vehicle to Mabambe village in the Malamulele policing area, where he was apprehended,” Ledwaba added.
The accused is expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on August 11, facing a murder charge.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the brutal killing, urging couples in troubled relationships to seek professional help rather than resort to violence.
