Police in Limpopo have launched a murder and attempted murder investigation after a man allegedly shot three sisters, killing two and critically injuring the third, in what authorities believe to be a domestic-related incident.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the horrific incident occurred on Saturday, October 18, at around 12pm, when a 45-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his 44-year-old wife and her 36-year-old sister, before turning the gun on a third sister, aged 34, who miraculously survived the attack.

He added that police officers were on patrol when they received reports of a shooting at Mabins B Village. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the victims lying on the ground.

“On arrival found the brother of the victims who pointed out two lifeless bodies of his sisters with multiple gunshot wounds.”

Ledwaba said the victims’ brother told police that the suspect arrived at their family home, parked his car outside, and suddenly opened fire on the family.

“During the shooting, the surviving 34-year-old sister-in-law managed to flee for safety but was shot in the stomach. She was later taken to a local hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and was later discovered at his home, where he had allegedly turned the gun on himself.

Ledwaba said the motive behind the incident remains unclear, and police investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the brutal attack, urging couples to resolve domestic disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.

“Domestic-related problems should be discussed and resolved amicably. Too many innocent lives are being lost unnecessarily.”
