A 30-year-old man has been arrested after police intercepted a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser V8 worth approximately R1.9 million on the N1 outside Modimolle.

The high-value vehicle, which was reported stolen in Bedfordview in February 2026, was recovered during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the Waterberg Flying Squad, Modimolle SAPS and the Mahwelereng Crime Prevention Unit on Saturday, March 1.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers received information from a vehicle tracking company at about 10:30am regarding a grey Toyota Land Cruiser V8 with Gauteng registration travelling towards Limpopo.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, officers put the information into effect and intercepted the vehicle at Middlefontein North, outside Modimolle. Upon inspection, the vehicle was positively confirmed as stolen.

“The driver was arrested on the scene and detained at Modimolle SAPS. The vehicle, valued at approximately R1.9 million, was successfully recovered.”

The suspect, identified as Sipho Dlamini, appeared before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 2, facing a charge of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

He was remanded in custody until March 6 for a formal bail application as police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the officers for their swift response and coordinated action, which led to the recovery of the high-value vehicle and the arrest of the suspect.
