According to NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba, the manufacturer informed the commission that 1,152 units of the product are affected. Of these, 348 units were sold to consumers, while 804 units have already been removed from store shelves.

Ntaba said Clicks informed the commission that the affected batch tested positive for non-pathogenic Listeria contamination.

“The affected batch tested positive for non-pathogenic Listeria contamination. The supplier further noted that the type of Listeria is generally non-pathogenic to humans but has rare and isolated reports of human disease.”

Consumers are urged to check whether their products match the affected batch details:

Identifying Numbers: 396194 MGF 03.03.26 Lot 6:003 BB 02.03.2027

The NCC said the affected items were sold at Clicks stores across South Africa and through Clicks Online and were also distributed to Lesotho.

Ntaba reiterated that consumers who have purchased the affected products should not consume them and must immediately return them to any Clicks store.

Customers will receive a full refund or replacement, even without proof of purchase.

The commission said it is closely monitoring this recall and other recent product recalls ensuring compliance with the Consumer Protection Act and to safeguard consumer rights.

The NCC’s Acting Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu, reminded suppliers of their legal responsibility to ensure that products sold to consumers meet safety standards.

“As we mark World Consumer Rights Day today with the global theme Safe Products. Confident Consumers, we remind suppliers of their obligation to provide goods of good quality, free of defects, usable and durable. Where goods fail to meet the required standards, those goods must be removed from the shelves to minimise potential harm.”
